Blueprint vs C++

  • C++: core systems, performance-critical code, data structures, AI logic
  • Blueprint: gameplay logic, UI, animation blueprints, material graphs, level scripting
  • Hybrid pattern: C++ base class with Blueprint child for designer iteration
  • Expose only what designers need (BlueprintCallable, BlueprintReadWrite, BlueprintType)

Performance

  • World Partition for large open-world levels (streaming, HLOD, cell-based loading)
  • Nanite for high-poly geometry (virtualized geometry, automatic LOD)
  • Lumen for dynamic global illumination and reflections
  • Niagara for VFX (GPU particles with compute shaders)

Rendering
